The Distribution System Operator (DSO) of National Grid Electricity Distribution will share its future network development plans with all local authorities in the South West, Midlands and South Wales, following the recent success of a similar scheme in Leicester.
Network development plans look at the sustainability of delivery of electricity by the network, identifies potential problems and seeks flexible solutions.
This co-operation aims to help local authorities see how their data and insights have fed into network planning to ensure that the future infrastructure meets the needs of communities. This will become ever more important in the journey to a low carbon economy, and ultimately net zero.
A more joined up approach between DSOs, local authorities and their communities has to be a good thing, and it is hoped this will speed up connections to new developments, which can currently delay delivery of new developments.
