As we approach the upcoming Resolution Conference in Birmingham on 16-17 May 2025 (National Conference 2025 | Resolution) it is always helpful for practitioners to remind themselves of the Resolution code which many, including this author, are committed to.
This includes to:
- Reduce or manage any conflict and confrontation; for example, by not using inflammatory language.
- Support and encourage families to put the best interests of any children first.
- Act with honesty, integrity and objectivity.
- Help clients understand and manage the potential long-term financial and emotional consequences of decisions.
- Listen to and treat everyone with respect and without judgment.
- Use my experience and knowledge to guide clients through the options available to them.
- Continually develop my knowledge and skills.
- Use the Resolution Guides to Good Practice (Good Practice Guides, Guidance Notes and Handbooks | Resolution) in my day-to-day work.
When reflecting on the above, the critical point is to try and take as much of the stress and hostility out of a divorce as possible, which is always easier when a Resolution family solicitor on the other side is also trying to do the same.
Our very own Adam Maguire will be delivering the opening speech to members at the conference on the Friday morning of the two day conference. The conference is due to take place at the Eastside rooms (Eastside Rooms, Woodcock St, Birmingham B7 4BL). Get your tickets if you haven’t already!
